Hailing from rural Georgia, Bubba Sparxxx debuted in 2001 with the gold-selling Dark Days, Bright Nights. Released through Interscope and produced by Timbaland and Organized Noize, it featured the single "Ugly" and showed America that a redneck white kid from the woods could still make rap hits. Deliverance and The Charm followed, and while still quality albums, neither made much of an impact on the charts. After disappearing from the scene for seven years, Bubba returns with Pain Management on his own label, New South. Notably lacking any big-name producers or rap superstar guests, it's still hip-hop but with an even stronger cowboy vibe—as evidenced by the fiddles on "Country Folks" (featuring Colt Ford and Danny Boone from Rehab). Sparxxx reflects on simple good times, i.e. the cooler full of Natty Light on the pickup's tailgate. Some of the tracks here would fit right in on any modern country radio playlist, especially "Right" with Rodney Atkins and "LaGrange" featuring Dan Rockwett. But others still maintain a club-friendly Dirty South vibe.
