Orange County punk rockers Civet aren’t looking to make nice. The all-female quartet offer an aggressive attack that takes the lessons of the Dead Boys and other ‘70s punk rockers and channels it through decades of simmering rage with a healthy dose of songwriting talent carefully tucked inside singer Ms. Liza Graves’ angry proclamations. Right from the lead-off track, she wishes to put a bullet in the head of the woman her boyfriend is fooling around with behind her back, only to realize by the second cut, “Son of a Bitch,” that her man is “no good” and “lazy.” Rancid’s Tim Armstrong co-wrote the surprisingly accessible “All I Want” with Graves and it sounds smooth and almost apologetic in comparison with the vitriol spewed elsewhere. Bandmates bassist Jacqui Valentine and guitarist Suzi Homewrecker toughen up the sound with their disgruntled feelings and abrasive riffs channeled through standouts such as “Bad Luck,” “Take Me Away” and “Gin and Tonic.”
