The intro (or "Intra" as it were) of this compilation sets us up for a taut and twitchy mixtape, complete with a robotic roll call from Ed Banger's roster and a nudge, nudge segue into the X-rated, electro-shocked battle rap of Uffie. The cross-fader stops here, however. Not that this is a surprise. It's nearly impossible to mix the staple singles of a label that's perfectly happy slinging hollow cowbells, crisp hi-hats, arena rock guitars and serrated synths until something sticks. All right, it's a train wreck waiting to happen, as hammerhead rhythms and deviant dance beats present a Studio 54 soundtrack for the Playstation generation. One clarification about this comp: Don't call it "new rave." Key Ed Banger artists such as Justice, Sebastian and DJ Mehdi are too busy doing their own thing to be dubbed a rehash of the music industry's failed brush with the Chemical Brothers and Prodigy. Having Daft Punk manager Busy P at the helm (and turning out a decent Daft Punk pastiche of his own on "Rainbow Man") sure doesn't hurt in the credentials department, either.
