Gene Chandler's tenure at 20th Century Fox Records had about run its course by the time of this LP. A couple of disco hits were the highlights of his Fox experience. Here's to Love is a nice parting shot for Eugene Dixon, known professionally as Gene Chandler, but who will always be the Duke of Earl. "I'm Attracted to You" failed as a single, and rightfully so; it's a good album cut, but there were stronger tunes to release. "I've Got to Meet Her" is classic Gene Chandler, an emotional tale of a love triangle written by James Thompson that Chandler dramatizes, accompanied by some hitting female backing vocals. On his 20th Century Fox albums, Chandler always included one of his earlier R&B hits; this time it's Billy Butler's "God Bless Our Love" that gets updated. His best vocal performance is wasted on an OK song, "Almost All the Way to Love," the most pop-sounding selection here. He gets introspective on a Sam Dees composition entitled "For the Sake of the Memories"; the song is not one of Dees' best. The bouncy "Almost Daylight" has commercial appeal, but it's too cute a song for Chandler.
