When this Dublin-based singer/songwriter released his debut album in 2010, he earned international acclaim for its collection of shopworn, heartbroken folk. On his second studio album, McMorrow strips away everything but his distinctive falsetto, replacing tambourines with 808s and guitars with delicately constructed samples. The result is breathtaking, a warm blanket of sound that marries the nuanced minimal electronic music of James Blake with the cinematic indie folk of Bon Iver. "The Lakes" features a collage of 12 sampled mandolins, "Look Out”  blooms from somber chords into a waterfall of square-wave synthesizers and crashing cymbals, and "Glacier" builds from a mournful piano accompaniment to choral chants. It’s a gorgeous, daring album.
