An undisputed blues legend, Lightnin' Hopkins recorded countless albums over his lengthy career, with many more collections released after his 1982 death. As an eight-year-old in Texas, he befriended Blind Lemon Jefferson at a picnic and soon often accompanied him on guitar. He began recording professionally in the mid-‘40s and released his first official album in the '50s. By 1960, he was playing at Carnegie Hall with folk icons Pete Seeger and Joan Baez. Revitalized by a younger audience largely unfamiliar with his early work, he then spent the rest of his days putting out tons of new material and touring the world, a global ambassador of old-school Texas blues. This collection features 15 of his timeless songs. While it's just a tip of the iceberg of to his gigantic body of work, it's all great stuff, whether you're a hardcore blues fanatic or a neophyte looking for a good place to start.
