Having grown weary of the typical album process in which an artist spends three years writing and recording enough songs for a format where few listeners make it to an album's “second side”—and where the album itself disappears from the press within weeks of its release—veteran power pop writer Marshall Crenshaw has recently focused his energies on assembling EPs, which make for complete listening and keep his name circulating at regular intervals. (No more "Where is he now?") Each of his EPs features a new Crenshaw composition, a cover of a song that tickles his fancy, a remake of a Crenshaw catalog tune, and a digital-only bonus track. This time out, the modest “Red Wine” opens the EP, with James McMurtry’s “Right Here Now” shining as a pop number, Crenshaw’s “Delilah” serving as the updated tune, and “Going Going Gone” (not the Bob Dylan song) filling things out as the bonus cut.
