With his third studio album being the first on an independent label, country crooner Randy Houser sounds noticeably less bound by pressure to forge a radio hit and freer to explore more natural sounds. The opening cut here, “Runnin' Outta Moonlight,” is equally rooted in Music City twang and the bygone tones of classic rock radio, but the soaring melodies and romantic lyrics are purely Houser’s. The following “Growing Younger” struts on similarly feel-good sentiments sung over a swampier groove trimmed in grungy guitar distortion. Houser collaborates with Zac Brown for the smoky ballad “Along for the Ride,” where his voice simmers down to let listeners home in on the nuances of his richly toned tenor. Kristy Lee Cook pipes in her silky vocals for the heartfelt duet “Wherever Love Goes”; then “Like a Cowboy” puts the power back in the power ballad with emotional urgency. (It's easy to envision Jon Bon Jovi covering that one with rocking results.) Speaking of rock, the album’s outstanding title track kicks out distorted AC/DC–flavored riffs.
