Never mind that it's cobbled together from various concerts. Never mind that a couple of the tracks aren't live at all, but rather studio tracks with crowd noise added on. Never mind that the screams are often louder than the band and that the performances get mighty sloppy at times (even in the 2002 upgraded version). This is still, along with The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl and The Live Kinks, a rare and raw audio documentation of British Invasion-era madness. From the first notes of "Under My Thumb," "Get Off of My Cloud," "The Last Time," and "19th Nervous Breakdown," the energy onstage and off is undeniable and practically punk, and even a de-burnished "Lady Jane" works — if you're in the right frame of mind. So loosen up and scream along.
