Though Stacy Lattisaw first came to fame with the 1980 Top Ten R&B/Top 21 pop ballad "Let Me Be Your Angel," she does mostly up-tempo material on her Top 16 R&B LP What You Need. The standouts are the pumpin', sensual "Dance for You," "You Touched the Woman in Me," "R U Man Enuff," and "Guilty (Lock Me Up)." The title-track single broke the R&B Top 30 in the fall of 1989. Ironically, it would be a ballad duet with frequent singing partner Johnny Gill that would prove to be the album's biggest single. "Where Do We Go From Here" parked at number one R&B while curiously crossing over to the pop charts in late 1989. The followup was another ballad, "I Don't Have the Heart."
