The husband-wife duo of Alyssa and Doug Graham were friends in grade school and from an early age shared an unlikely interest in Americana roots music. Their debut album, Riverman’s Daughter, reflects this lifelong obsession, with GRAMMY®-winning producer Malcolm Burn insisting that the duo perform the songs live in the studio, the way musicians like The Carter Family, Hank Williams, and Mississippi John Hurt did. The NYC-based duo headed down to Nashville to find the best studios and best musicians for its kind of music; here, The North Mississippi Allstars are among the guests coloring the tracks. The resulting songs have a variety of styles, from the country-rock of “Carrying the Torch” to the late-'50s feel of “You Made Me Love You” and the even earlier traditional sounds of “Revival Time” and “If You’re in New York.” “A Good Man” leans toward a country-fried Fleetwood Mac. The shifts from banjo workouts to tough electric guitar numbers show two artists with plenty of talent at their fingertips.
