After five albums, Lemonheads leader Evan Dando transcended his college-rock pin-up status with this 1993 epistle to confusion, drugs, women, loneliness, and boredom. Standouts of many include a gentle acoustic ode to personal prostitutions (“Paid to Smile”), a ringing pop gem of innocence (“Into Your Arms,” penned by Aussie Robyn St. Clare), a bong-hit paean featuring appropriate backward guitar (“Rick James Style”), an alt-country tenderizer (“Big Gay Heart”), some churning breakup sadness (“Great Big No”), and even sadder minor-chord acoustic balladry (“Favorite T”).
