Big Al Anderson kept on chooglin' with NRBQ, representing the freest rock 'n' roll spirit in a music world that found itself getting ever more corporate. As a songwriter, he provided songs for LeAnn Rimes, Carlene Carter, and Tim McGraw. Shawn Camp wrote hits for George Strait and Brooks & Dunn and recorded several solo albums of high repute. Pat McLaughlin's songs were covered by Tanya Tucker and Delbert McClinton, Bonnie Raitt, and Alan Jackson. Professional sidemen Michael Rhodes and Greg Morrow served under John Fogerty, Joss Stone, Johnny Cash, and The Dixie Chicks between them. With all this experience, it's no surprise that The World Famous Headliners' debut album is confident and fluid with a number of roots-music styles. Elements of country, rockabilly, blues, Tejano, and heartland rock filter into harmony and unison-led tunes such as "Give Your Love to Me," "Can I?," and "Too Fast for You." Any devotee of NRBQ or, say, The Mavericks, will find plenty here. This is a rare band with nothing to prove but with the ability to prove it in their sleep.
