Slash from Gun N’ Roses said many times that this is his favorite live album. It’s easy to see why. The 1979 double-live monster (the band’s ninth album), recorded in Chicago and Louisville, beautifully highlights Michael Schenker’s stridently melodic guitar leads and the effortless tenor of vocalist Phil Mogg, as they and their bandmates make arena classics of rafter-rattlers such as “Rock Bottom,” “Too Hot to Handle,” “Doctor Doctor," and “Lights Out,” and the relatively gentle “I’m a Loser.” Rock ’n’ roll from the ’70s doesn’t get any better than this, amped up on adrenaline, power, and deceptively simple pop melodies.
