Alex Gimeno’s Ursula 1000 had been the electronica-exotica project of choice for over a decade by the time Mondo Beyondo saw its 2011 release, so why innovate? Just getting better at what you do seems to be the attitude here, as familiar retro delights and swinging good times spill out of this prime release, leaving only the guest list as a fresh talking point, and it’s a doozy. B-52's’ main man Fred Schneider squawks and shouts with delight on the groovy party assault called “Hey You!” while cool diva Isabelle Antena doesn’t bossa but super nova’s on “Répétez Le Repertoire,” a French re-imagining of Deee-Lite. Rapper Ms. G, Thievery Corporation singer Natalie Clavier, and modern-day crooner Big Mike Geier are here too, along with a bunch of uncredited ghouls and goblins that make “Graveyard Stomp” the retro Halloween pick to click. Quite the splendid party, just as "Mondo" and "Beyondo" as the invite stated.
