To Be Sold To Verizon For $5 Billion: Reports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Yahoo&#8217;s had a troubled few years as it struggled to remain relevant in a world where it was upstaged by younger upstarts, but it may have finally been put out of its misery. Reuters is <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><a style=\"color: #33cccc;\" href=\"http:\/\/in.reuters.com\/article\/us-yahoo-m-a-verizon-idINKCN1040U9\" target=\"_blank\">reporting<\/a><\/span> that Verizon has agreed to buy Yahoo! for an estimated $5 billion.\u00a0The deal will end months of uncertainty about Yahoo&#8217;s future after the company announced plans to review strategic alternatives in February. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">At its peak, Yahoo\u00a0was once valued at $140 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19993\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/yahoo.jpg?resize=640%2C360\" alt=\"yahoo\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/yahoo.jpg?w=660&amp;ssl=1 660w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/yahoo.jpg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/yahoo.jpg?resize=500%2C281&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/yahoo.jpg?resize=600%2C337&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/yahoo.jpg?resize=71%2C40&amp;ssl=1 71w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">The deal would\u00a0mark the end of Yahoo as an operating company. Yahoo now will only hold\u00a0a 35.5 percent stake in Yahoo Japan, and\u00a015 percent interest in Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Verizon had acquired AOL for $4.4 billion last year and the Yahoo deal is expected to add more muscle to its internet business. With the deal, Verizon will have access to\u00a0Yahoo&#8217;s advertising technology tools, as well as other assets such as search, mail, messenger and real estate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><span id=\"midArticle_1\"><\/span>Yahoo was founded by Stanford students Jerry Yang and David Filo in 1994. It was one of the original stars of the dot com era, and its homepage was once thought to be a standard on web browsers throughout the world. In the early 2000s, Yahoo had lost ground to Google on its search, but still had popular mail and chat services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">In the late 2000s, there were\u00a0several takers for Yahoo, including Microsoft, but no deal had materialized.
