Uber cabs have made getting around much easier in cities, and their cheap fares have ensured that thousands of Indians regularly use its services. But to claim that Indians are now able to go out on weekends because of Uber might be a bit much.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">That&#8217;s what\u00a0Christian Freese,\u00a0general manager for Uber\u2019s Bangalore office seemed to imply in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/04\/14\/technology\/uber-india.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\">interview<\/span> <\/a>with the New York Times. &#8220;Before Uber, \u201cfolks were rather locked up at home,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cNow you can see people go out, especially on the weekend. You just press a button and the car is there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">While companies regularly exaggerate their impact in order to be seen as &#8220;changing the world&#8221;, this particular remark hasn&#8217;t gone well on Twitter. &#8220;Yes New York Times, before Uber people just sat fretting by the windows, seeing a great big world they couldn&#8217;t access,&#8221; tweeted Gopal Sathe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/gopalsathe\/status\/853132670284570624<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Others soon jumped in with some zingers of their own, featuring elephants and snakes.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In fact, the elephant I used to hire on weekends has now been able to return to its natural habitat.
