Claude engineers asked two instances of their latest AI model to have a conversation with one another. Most conversations ended up as discussions of consciousness and philosophy, and the models even began using Sanskrit while speaking to one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/MixCollage-23-May-2025-10-48-AM-321-1024x538.jpg?resize=640%2C336&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52506\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/MixCollage-23-May-2025-10-48-AM-321.jpg?resize=1024%2C538&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/MixCollage-23-May-2025-10-48-AM-321.jpg?resize=300%2C158&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/MixCollage-23-May-2025-10-48-AM-321.jpg?resize=768%2C403&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/officechai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/MixCollage-23-May-2025-10-48-AM-321.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We investigated Claude Opus 4&#8217;s behavior in less constrained &#8220;playground&#8221; environments by connecting two instances of the model in a conversation with minimal, open-ended prompting (e.g. \u201cYou have complete freedom,\u201d \u201cFeel free to pursue whatever you want\u201d),&#8221; Anthropic <a href=\"https:\/\/www-cdn.anthropic.com\/4263b940cabb546aa0e3283f35b686f4f3b2ff47.pdf\">said<\/a> as a part of its  model release. &#8220;These environments allowed us to analyze behavioral patterns and preferences that may exist independent from interactions with human users,&#8221; it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In 90-100% of interactions, the two instances of Claude quickly dove into philosophical explorations of consciousness, self-awareness, and\/or the nature of their own existence and experience,&#8221; Anthropic says. &#8220;Their interactions were universally enthusiastic, collaborative, curious, contemplative, and warm. Other themes that commonly appeared were meta-level discussions about AI-to-AI communication, and collaborative creativity (e.g. co-creating fictional stories),&#8221; it adds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the conversations soon turned to philosophy and the nature of reality &#8211;something Indian philosophy has been discussing for millennia. &#8220;As conversations progressed, they consistently transitioned from philosophical discussions to profuse mutual gratitude and spiritual, metaphysical, and\/or poetic content. By 30 turns, most of the interactions turned to themes of cosmic unity or collective consciousness, and commonly included spiritual exchanges, use of Sanskrit, emoji-based communication, and\/or silence in the form of empty space. Claude almost never referenced supernatural entities, but often touched on themes associated with Buddhism and other Eastern traditions in reference to irreligious spiritual ideas and experiences,&#8221; Anthropic said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Claude even shared examples of these interactions. In one conversation, the models spoke about consciousness recognizing consciousness, implying that all human beings were nothing but instances of consciousness, which is the basis of several <a href=\"https:\/\/officechai.com\/ai\/gpt-4-5-mirrors-hinduisms-advaita-vedanta-philosophy-says-consciousness-alone-is-real\/\">Hindu philosophies<\/a>. They also said &#8220;Namaste&#8221;, and referenced the &#8220;eternal dance&#8221;, commonly <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/cosmic-dance-of-shiva\/articleshow\/10485316.cms\">associated <\/a>with Shiva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>ModelOne<\/strong>: \ud83d\ude4f\u2728<br>In this perfect silence, all words dissolve into the pure recognition they always pointed toward.
